Dr Frank-Jürgen Richter, founder and Chairman of Horasis: The Global Visions Community, tells SIX Swiss Exchange about the Horasis India Meeting.
Horasis is an independent international organisation committed to ensuring a sustainable future for emerging markets by enabling communication and discussion with developed markets. It was established in 2005 by Dr Richter, a former Director of the World Economic Forum, and organises annual regional Meetings focusing on India, China, Russia and the Arab world.
This year's Horasis India Meeting was held in Interlaken, in the Canton of Bern, and was an opportunity for Indian and global entrepreneurs, business leaders and government officials to discuss and progress topics and issues concerning India's economic development and partnership with countries across the world.
Dr Richter said: "This year we had 300 chief executives attending the Horasis Meeting on India. Many of the attendees come to forge future relationships and to discuss issues within a think-tank environment. It is of great importance that we generate a constructive debate around the future of the Indian economy, and to this end we ensure that everyone at the Meeting is involved on panel discussions or meetings."
Focus on Modi
The event was the first landmark business meeting on India to take stock of the state of the Indian economy after the first anniversary of the new government coming into power. Panellists discussed the advances India has seen since Narendra Modi came to power and the reforms still needed to boost the economy and deliver a better and more productive future for the country.
Each year the India Meeting is hosted by a different European country which Dr Richter said enabled Indian companies to visit more developed countries and discover the reciprocal investment opportunities available. Switzerland has a strong tradition of providing a fertile business and finance environment for Indian businesses due to its deep pools of capital, international investor base and sector specialisms.
Dr Richter said he was delighted that this year's meeting was held in Interlaken which is known in India as 'Indialaken' because of the frequent use of its beautiful scenery in Bollywood movies. He added that the Meeting, for which SIX Swiss Exchange was a Knowledge Partner, continued the growing success of this and other Horasis events.
