Economic and political uncertainty are threatening to end an era of global integration that grew through the boom years after the fall of the iron curtain.

Under the theme ‘Visions for Tomorrow – from Uncertainty to Confidence’, participants shared insights on the current state of the world and identified visions to build confidence enabling decisive progress towards a richer society. George Osborne, Chancellor of the Exchequer, United Kingdom, presented the opening address. His viewpoints – local and global in reach – provided a base for the rest of the meeting. A special panel with F.W. de Klerk, Former President of South Africa focused on the Nobel Peace Prize Laureate’s unique contribution to world history in initiating, leading and then handing on power in what could be termed Africa’s first Velvet Revolution.
