Horasis convened the 2012 Global India Business Meeting on 24-25 June in Antwerp, Belgium, co-hosted by the government of Flanders. The Global India Business Meeting is an annual invitation-only summit of global business and political leaders relating to India. In his welcoming speech, Anand Sharma, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, India affirmed that partnerships of the size and scale of that between India and Europe are an important demonstration of sustainable collaboration. Minister Sharma expressed confidence that India would be attracting more direct investment from Europe this year, despite the gloomy world economy and despite India´s own economic challenges. He further expressed confidence on boosting the annual growth rate back to 8-9 p.a. Speaking on behalf of the host country of this year’s meeting, Kris Peeters, Minister-President, Government of Flanders, Belgium, said that Flanders is committed to collaborate with India to accelerate global economic growth.

Geoff Pyatt, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, USA, affirmed that the US and India are committed to working together to strengthen global economic and financial institutions.

 

On the opening plenary, Sunil Kant Munjal, Jt Managing Director, Hero MotoCorp, India, remarked that the gradual rise in incomes and opportunities for millions of Indians is a welcome source of optimism. Eddy Bruyninckx, Chief Executive Officer, Antwerp Port Authority, Belgium, added that recent market volatility worldwide confirms how integrated the global economy has come.

 

Awarded as ‘Indian Business Leaders of the Year’ were two outstanding entrepreneurs who have been building and leading successful Indian firms: D.K. Jain, Chairman & President, Luxor Group, India; and Kushal P. Singh, Chairman, DLF, India.

The location of the event rotates annually, and was held so far in Munich (2009), Madrid (2010), Naples (2011) and Antwerp (2012). The 2012 Global India Business Meeting successfully gathered 300 participants from over 30 countries. Participants discuss and debate a wide range of issues relating to India’s economy, government, and society, global trade with India, and other geopolitical issues.

 

Horasis as an independent international organization is committed to enacting visions for a sustainable future through the active participation of global business leaders in several yearly meetings.
